La légende envoûtante de la découverte du thé

Le thé, cette boisson millénaire qui captive les sens, a une histoire riche et mystérieuse. Bien que l’on ne puisse pas vraiment parler d’invention du thé, mais plutôt de découverte, celle-ci est bercée d’une très jolie légende. Remontons le cours du temps pour explorer les débuts fascinants de cette boisson vénérée.

 

La légende de l’Empereur Shen Nong :

La légende la plus répandue sur la découverte du thé remonte à l’Empereur Shen Nong, un dirigeant légendaire de la Chine antique et le père de l’agriculture et de la médecine chinoise. Selon cette légende, c’est vers 2737 avant J.-C., que l’empereur se reposait sous un arbre tout en faisant bouillir de l’eau. Des feuilles de thé sauvages provenant de l’arbre au-dessus de lui tombèrent dans sa tasse d’eau chaude, créant ainsi la première infusion de thé. Intrigué par l’arôme et le goût, Shen Nong découvrit les bienfaits apaisants et revitalisants du thé.

Évolution de la consommation du thé en Chine 

Cette découverte fortuite a ensuite évolué pour devenir une tradition ancienne et riche en rituels. Les écrits les plus anciens qui évoque la consommation du thé remonte à 800 av J.-C.

Bien qu’il n’ait pas vraiment d’inventeur du thé à proprement dit, la légende du thé a depuis conquis le monde avec sa diversité et son charme inimitable. Au fil du temps, la consommation de thé en Chine a évolué à partir d’un remède médicinal pour devenir une boisson sociale et rituelle. Au cours de la dynastie Tang (618-907 après J.-C.), le thé est devenu un élément essentiel de la culture chinoise.

La diffusion du thé au-delà des frontières Chinoises 

Le thé a progressivement transcendé les frontières chinoises, atteignant d’autres régions de l’Asie. Au 4e siècle, on voit apparaitre les premières plantations de thé dans la région chinoise du Sichuan. Au 6e siècle, les moines bouddhistes japonais ont introduit le thé vert au Japon, en Corée. De 618 à 907 après J.-C, la route du thé et des chevaux reliait la Chine, le Tibet et la Mongolie. Des pays dans lesquels le rituel du thé a toujours une grande importance.

 

 

 

 

 

 

La dynastie Tang et la popularité du thé 

La dynastie Tang (618-907 après J.-C) a marqué une ère significative pour la popularité du thé en Chine. Les maisons de thé sont devenues des lieux de rassemblement sociaux où les gens se réunissaient pour déguster différentes variétés de thé, discuter de poésie et apprécier la culture florissante de l’époque.

 

 

 

 

La dynastie Song et l’émergence du thé en feuilles 

Sous la dynastie Song (960-1279 après J.-C.), la méthode de préparation du thé en feuilles a gagné en popularité. Les feuilles de thé ont été compressées en galette ou encore en nid d’oiseau, puis émiettées et bouillies. C’est également à cette époque que le matcha du japon, une poudre de thé vert, a été développé et intégré à la cérémonie du thé japonaise, le Chanoyu.

 

Le thé noir et l’expansion européenne

Avec les échanges commerciaux entre l’Europe et l’Asie au 17e siècle, le thé noir chinois a conquis les palais occidentaux. Le commerce du thé a joué un rôle crucial dans l’histoire de la Compagnie britannique des Indes orientales et a contribué à la création de l’acte emblématique du Boston Tea Party en 1773, qui 2 ans plus tard précipitera la révolution américaine qui donna lieu de 1775 à 1783, à la guerre de l’indépendance.

 

La culture du thé de nos jours :

Aujourd’hui, le thé est devenu une 2ème boisson la plus consommée dans le monde derrière l’eau. Il offre une variété infinie de saveurs, de types et de rituels de préparation. Des cérémonies du thé comme le Gonfu Cha chinois, le Chanoyu japonais ou encore le Darye coréen, au Tea Time de l’après-midi en Angleterre, le thé continue de captiver les amateurs du monde entier.

Du berceau chinois de la dynastie Tang à la diffusion mondiale, le thé a parcouru un long chemin, devenant bien plus qu’une simple boisson pour devenir une partie intégrante de cultures diverses à travers l’histoire.
